Shelley Chinskey, the "Furnace Hills Expert"
Furnace Hills was built in scenic Carroll County amid rolling hillsides and historic landmarks and sites. Many of the stories surrounding the Furnace Hills area are attributed to Leigh Masters (1717-1796), the gentleman who once owned much of the area and built the iron furnace for which Furnace Hills is named. It is said that Masters sent to England for clover seed which he sowed generously before discovering with great dismay that the seed was in fact daisy seed. It is with humor that today, in the area where Masters lived, the daisy is still referred to as "Leigh Masters Clover."
